Program Overview

RIVA Solutions, Inc. is a rapidly growing IT services provider headquartered in McLean, VA, with operations across the United States. RIVA delivers mission-critical technology, operations, and consulting solutions for Federal customers across Federal Civilian, Federal Health, and National Security markets.

This internship supports RIVA’s Solutions/Technology efforts and is designed for STEM students who want hands-on exposure to modern technical disciplines including AI/ML, big data/analytics, application development, cloud technologies, cybersecurity, DevSecOps, and Human-Centered Design (HCD). The intern will collaborate with technical leaders and contribute to solutioning activities that help RIVA deliver innovative outcomes for our customers.

Position Overview

RIVA Solutions is seeking a highly motivated Solutions/Technology Intern to join our Solutions team. This role works closely with the VP of Application Services and Solutions leadership to support research, analysis, prototyping, and operationalization of technical initiatives.

The ideal candidate is inherently curious, eager to learn, and excited about emerging technologies. This internship is a strong fit for a student who enjoys exploring tools and programming languages, learning how modern delivery teams operate, and contributing to real-world solution development and proposal efforts. High-performing interns may be considered for extension or conversion opportunities based on business needs and performance.

Key Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Management

• Support work with structured and unstructured datasets to organize, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns
• Assist in preparing data and findings for internal stakeholders and solutioning discussions

AI/ML & Intelligent Automation

• Assist in building, testing, and refining AI/ML models or prototypes that improve or innovate services
• Support experimentation with emerging tools and methodologies related to AI/ML and analytics

Software Development & DevSecOps Support

• Contribute to writing, reviewing, and debugging code for applications and prototypes
• Support development efforts in environments where development, security, and operations converge (DevSecOps)

Operational & Project Support

• Help operationalize technical projects by supporting smooth transitions from concept to deployment
• Provide documentation and coordination support to keep workstreams organized and progressing

Innovative Exploration & Technical Research

• Explore new technologies, patterns, and tools to support project advancement and technical best practices
• Contribute ideas and findings that strengthen solution recommendations and technical direction

Proposal Development & Solution Architecting Support

• Assist with drafting and refining proposal content focused on technical solutions and customer needs
• Support Solutions practice leads with solution architecture tasks, including frameworks and structures aligned to project/client specifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in a STEM-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics)
• Minimum 3.0 GPA within major field of study
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
• Some proficiency with programming languages such as Python, TypeScript, Java, or .NET
• DMV-based (DC/MD/Northern VA) or willing to be onsite as needed for hybrid requirements (most work may be performed remotely)

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior internship, academic project, or leadership experience related to software, data, cloud, cybersecurity, or IT
• Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and/or modern development tooling (Git, CI/CD concepts)
• Interest in AI/ML, analytics, automation, and/or Human-Centered Design (HCD) approaches
• Familiarity with collaboration tools (Teams, SharePoint, Slack) and professional documentation practices
• Curiosity and initiative — demonstrates a strong desire to learn, experiment, and contribute
