IDR is seeking a Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist to join one of our top clients for an opportunity in El Segundo, California. This role supports a large, complex payroll environment within a well-established organization and is ideal for a detail-oriented payroll professional with deep multi-state tax expertise. The right candidate will help drive accurate payroll tax compliance, support audits and reporting, and partner across internal teams to ensure payroll operations run smoothly in a hybrid work setting.
Position Overview for the Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist:
- Manage payroll tax compliance activities across federal, state, and local jurisdictions for a large multi-state employee population.
- Serve as a key resource for payroll processing, tax filings, reconciliations, notices, amendments, and year-end reporting.
- Research payroll legislation and apply updated requirements to internal processes, controls, and payroll practices.
- Partner closely with teams across payroll, human resources, accounting, and IT to resolve issues and improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Support a hybrid payroll operation by balancing daily execution, audit readiness, reporting, and continuous process improvement.
Requirements for the Payroll Tax Compliance Specialist:
- 5+ years of payroll processing experience in a high-volume environment.
- Must have direct multi-state payroll filing experience, including federal, state, and local tax filings.
- Hands-on experience with payroll systems such as ADP Workforce Now and strong familiarity with payroll tax notices, reconciliations, and year-end reporting.
- Solid understanding of payroll regulations including FLSA, wage and hour compliance, garnishments, and payroll tax requirements.
- Strong Excel, analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a team-oriented environment.
