We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a strong background in consumer or industrial electronics to join one of our top clients in the Seattle area. This role will focus on designing, prototyping, validating, and improving mechanical systems for next-generation products. The ideal candidate is hands-on, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and enjoys collaborating across disciplines to bring innovative ideas from concept to production.
Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for consumer and industrial electronic products.
Use 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or similar) to create models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
Rapidly prototype mechanical concepts using woodshop and machine shop tools to support early product development activities.
Support the hardware development life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, validation, and production handoff.
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams—including Electrical Engineers, Manufacturing Test Engineers, and Industrial Designers—to develop and validate mechanical solutions.
Establish processes in lab and manufacturing test environments to ensure prototypes and test articles meet hardware design requirements.
Conduct root cause and failure analysis for mechanical issues, supporting continuous product improvement.
Plan and manage project schedules, providing accurate estimates and execution plans for mechanical deliverables.
Participate in design reviews and contribute to ensuring design for manufacturability, reliability, and scalability.
Document and communicate design progress, testing results, and development metrics to technical and leadership teams.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in the consumer or industrial electronics industry.
Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks or equivalent).
Hands-on experience working in woodshop and machine shop environments to build prototypes.
Solid understanding of hardware development life cycles, project planning, and execution.
Experience setting up lab and manufacturing test processes to validate early hardware builds.
Proven collaboration experience with cross-functional hardware and test engineering teams.
Strong troubleshooting and failure analysis skills in a lab environment.
Experience with product validation (shock/drop, cycle, and environmental testing) and root cause analysis.
Familiarity with structural analysis and finite element analysis (FEA).
Knowledge of DFM (Design for Manufacturing), DFA (Design for Assembly), and thermal analysis.
Experience integrating electromechanical components into hardware systems.
Ability to assess hardware designs for test coverage and manufacturability.
Understanding of design for scalability, performance, and reliability.
Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information effectively.
Ability to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative technical environment.
